Personal:
First things first, Who in the world is @cophotog? Well that’s me! I’m Chip Oglesby and I’m an award winning photojournalist. That’s how I came up with cophotog which you pronounce c.o.photog and not cop-hot-dog or cop-a-tog. I’m from the small town of Van Wyck S.C. It’s the home of Shawn Crawford and I. After graduating from Mars Hill College in 2003, I began my career as a photojournalist. I moved to Columbia, S.C. in 2006 and I worked at The State Media Company until February 2010. I was one of 12 people let go during our third round of layoffs at the paper.
I’m a new media evangelist, a photojournalist and a creative. Everything that I’ve learned so far has been through trial and error and being self-taught.
Professional:
After graduating from Mars Hill in 2003, I began my career as a photojournalist with The Lancaster News. As their only staffer photographer, I amounted 13 awards in the tri-weekly division of the SCPA. In 2006, I joined The State Media Company as their Night Picture Editor, where my edits won awards in the overall division of the SCPA. In 2007, I transitioned in the online department where I served as online producer until 2010.
Since joining the online department, I have a worked very hard in developing our social media strategy for The State. I have worked with reporters @johnroconnor, @adambeam and @otisatthestate on how they can use social media for their beats. In addition to my social media work, I also produced content for News, Metro, Sports, Life, Neighbors, Preps, and Weekend, assisted in the 2008 redesign of The State website and created a local news section, worked with coding HTML, XML and CSS into pages and single serving sites. I was also the primary producer for @thestate twitter account as well as managing social media outlets on Facebook and Youtube in addition to building databases, shooting video, creating photo galleries, flash based multimedia packages and working with the newsroom to post breaking news.
I was also a first round finalist in the Knight News Challenge for my idea of using data relationships and Augmented Reality to help define local news.

I would be a great addition to any online team. I’m very versed in my skills. I can shoot and edit photos, video and audio. I have working knowledge of CSS, PHP and the entire Adobe CS4 Creative Suite. All video editing is done in Final Cut Pro.
